Beautiful spelter sculpture of a young woman sitting with her mandolin. The artist has put a lot of care in the detailing of her face, clothing and musical instrument. It is signed on the base by the maker.
Hippolyte Moreau is a son of the famous sculpture Jean-Baptiste Moreau and has learned the trade from his father.
Together with his brothers Mathurin and Auguste, he has made many beautiful sculptures.
He exhibited in the Salon des artistes Francais and gotten a medal at the Exposition Universelle.
Some of his works are housed in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.
