Fiat - 509 A Torpedo 2 porte - NO RESERVE - 1929

This rare FIAT 509 A is the 2-door Torpedo version; also the “Sport” Mille Miglia version was made on this chassis. It is rarer than the 4-door Torpedo, more agile and light in driving. The engine is an original 109 A version (improved power, reliability and cylinder head compared to the normal 509), the date on the engine block 23-1-1929 is clearly visible and coincides with the year of construction. The two-door Fiat 509 A was the first Italian car to win the Monte Carlo Rally in 1928, driven by the French gentleman-driver Jacques Bignan. The car has recently undergone a total, complete and professional restoration in concours condition, followed with love and care by the previous owner. The bodywork was removed from the chassis, completely restored and painted in the original burgundy colour with black wings. The hood is new. The upholstery was completely redone as the original one in burgundy leather, like the carpet and the bottom (see photos). The engine was totally rebuilt and the original magnet ignition was modified by a specialist with an external coil for better and reliable operation; it works very well. The original 12V electrical system was completely overhauled. The original Fergat rims, suspension, steering, differential and gearbox were restored and work well. Speed declared by the manufacturer: over 80 km/h. A nice modification is represented by the brakes: the original ones were invisibly modified from the outside with Fiat hydraulic pump and cylinders, for a much more modern braking that allows you to use the car with more safety. The car is registered with Italian registration document and number plates (European) for a transfer of ownership or export. Registered in the Italian Fiat Historical Register (RFI) with an entry on the registration document; it participated in many events and concours d’elegance. A video of the car and the engine is available, please contact Catawiki. Bidders are welcome to view and test the vehicle, which is located in Quarrata 51039, PT, Italy. Please send a message to Catawiki for an appointment. We will take care of the transfer of ownership remotely or of the export documents. Shipping throughout Italy, Europe and the rest of the world at low rates. Follow our NO RESERVE auctions on Catawiki.
