骑马小雕像耶内加公主 - African bronze - 莫西 - 布基纳法索

Very Lovely Figurine representing Princess Yennenga holding a spear and ridding a fiery horse which is rearing up. The horse theme is recurrent in the Mossi culture, a people known for their war cavalry, which enabled them to conquer the entire so-called Mossi Plateau, located in the centre of Burkina Faso, from the north of current Ghana. Extract of the founding myth of the Mossi: Yennenga is a princess who originated from the Dagomba Kingdom, in current Ghana, she is the daughter of the naba/king Nedega and of queen Napoko. She is the founder of the Moogo Kingdom (gathering the Mossi peoples), located in current Burkina Faso. It was trying to flee from her destiny that she met Rialé, a hunter of princely blood. From their union was born a boy named Ouédraogo (meaning “male horse” or “stallion”) in the honour of the white destrier which led the princess to the young hunter. Yennenga is a very popular figure in Burkina Faso and the patronymic Ouédraogo is the most common one among the Mossi. Bronze craftsmen of Ouagadougou are known for their accurate craftsmanship with a refined style. This piece, which dates back to the 1950s, presents a wonderful brown patina.
