1858 Remington Revolver 44 calibre New Model Army: Length: 349 mm Barrel: 203 mm Weight: 1.27 kg The New Model Army was the last of the .44 calibre percussion revolvers manufactured by Remington, from 1863 to 1875, in 132,000 copies, serial numbers from 19,793 to 147,283. This one was purchased by France for the war of 1870 (government of National Defence), as evidenced by its registration number ‘232’ on the side of the barrel. It is polished white, because France polished its weapons upon receipt. Original markings on the barrel: ‘PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL’ Its serial number 118997 indicates a late production. The same number is on the body (under the left grip plate) and under the barrel. The thumb rest is numbered 40647. Barrel in good condition, distinct grooves. Original plates in good condition. Attachment for a butt ring. One of the chimneys is damaged (see photo), they are not clogged, but need to be cleaned. Please Note: The trigger spring has been replaced.
