Large Mexican handcrafted chessboard. This wonderful chess set is unique, it was crafted and painted by hand by a Mexico City craftsman around the 1970s. The chessboard, that can be closed like a book, shows the old Mayan calendar on the sides, while the pieces are inspired by the Mayan civilization. Inside it is padded with red velvet. The structure is made of wood, all inserts are hand-made with two local stones and resin. The large pieces vary in size from 14 to 9 cm in height, while the chessboard measures 48 x 48 cm and 7 cm in height. This wonderful chess set is a unique and highly sought after ornamental piece.
