Toile de Jouy fabric was made for the first time in the factory created by Christophe Philippe Oberkampf in 1760, in Jouy-en-Josas in the Yvelines. Toile de jouy is a 100% cotton fabric prints come from authentic engravings at that time ,say the purist. Toile de Jouy is a timeless fabric and ideal for a multitude of uses. This piece is from my own collection and the intention was to make it into cushions, but as usual time is not on my side. It is a superb piece and full of scenes of making music, dances and outdoor lunches, The colours are virtually true, a kind of bottle green and beige. The transfer from the engraving to the cotton fabric is superb and very real , sharp and clear. I have first styled the various scenes into a cushion and thereafter given you photos of the entire piece. It has a multitude of use, and not only for cushions ,but also for making a roman blind by joining the two pieces together appliqué for making table linen with matching napkins, etc.etc. P.S.
