A beautiful Terracotta and sgraffito hand painted jug Dante Milani, Montopoli Arno Italy Superb work with the fantastic decoration of a legendary winged dragon or griffin and flowers, handmade and hand painted, from the rich past of Tuscan ceramics. Each side has a unique decor. It was made by Dante Milani workshop in Montopoli, Italy in the 1930s. Stylized like Italian renaissance vases. Since the 16th century, the town of Montopoli has been home to many kiln operators and potters. Since the 1800s, Montopoli has been home to the ceramic company Dante Milani, which has trained generations of skilled artisans in the manufacture of terracotta decorations. The pieces are made with the technique of scratching and finishing with an aging patina and waxing, reproducing scenes that draw on various figurative cultures over time (Egyptian, Etruscan, late Renaissance, Chinese, Oriental) flanked by floral motifs. Condition The jug is in very good condition with a few tiny chips with no visible impact. It is signed and numbered.
