A rare Somalia Gendarmerie officers cap badge in sliver and with deer horns, dating from 1946.
It is inscribed S.G.
It belonged to Captain W A Heaton, a Captain in the British Army.
Following World War Two, where he fought in Burmah against the Japanese, he made the decision to join the Gendarmerie in Somalia.
He was part of the Field Force of the Gendarmerie, the military arm that controlled the borders, protecting the local civilians from raiders.
He also assisted in the training of the King's African Rifles in Somalia.
The cap badge is formed from a Maria Teresa Silver Dollar, hand formed and engraved SG.
The horns are from a Dik-Dik Antelope, mounted in silver tubes behind the silver dollar.
This is a very RARE piece of Militaria, and very few of these cap badges are in existence today.
It is in good condition, with just a few scuffs.
The pin is broken, so it will require a new pin to be fitted.
I know so much about this cap badge because it was my fathers, and all the information came directly from him about his history there, and the important work he carried out in Somalia.
A great opportunity.
