Large Gulf Petrol & Oil Enamel Garage Advertising Sign Standard Oil - 珐琅标志 (1) - 搪瓷

GULF Oil Large - Enamel Wall Sign An attractive enamel advertising sign for the Gulf Oil. Gulf Oil was a major global company from the 1900s to the mid-1980s, when it merged with Standard Oil of California and re-branded as Chevron. Motorsports fans will be familiar with the signature orange and blue colour scheme, which first appeared on the track when Gulf sponsored the John Wyer Automotive team in the 1960s. It was initially associated with the Ford GT40 but was perhaps best known for the iconic Porsche 917 Le Mans racers which came a little later. Much of its popularity can be attributed to the fact that in the 1971 film, ‘Le Mans’, Steve McQueen’s character Michael Delaney drives for the Gulf team. As a result of McQueen's increasing popularity following his death and the undoubted appeal of the cool Heuer Monaco which he wore in the film, Tag Heuer released a limited edition of the watch with the Gulf logo and trademark colour scheme. In the same era Gulf Oil also sponsored Team McLaren, further underlining their commitment to motor racing and forever associating their brand with the sport. Measurements: 49.5 cm Length x 49.5 cm Height. Weight: 1.885 Kg's. The sign has a curve of around 2 cm and Two fixing holes. The sign is in used condition for its age with some enamel loss - Please see images. Ideal for all Gulf / Sign enthusiasts. Worldwide Delivery via Express Tracked and Insured Courier service.
