Fantastic, tall and heavy wooden chôba’dansu 帳場箪笥 (merchant's document cabinet) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed in Japan.
Made of sturdy and precious solid 'Keyaki' wood (Zelkova - Japanese oak) with a striking natural wood grain. The top and side panels are made of indigenous sugi (cedar) wood).
Entirely varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’.
The upper part constructed with a pair of sliding doors above a full-width drawer. The doors with quality-cut panels with a mirrored pattern, fitted with an iron sliding lock and oblong thumb grips. Opening to a shelved storage area and two small drawers.
The lower section with four full-width drawers.
The drawers are equipped with large black iron circular lock plates paired with sturdy ‘warabite’-shaped bail handles.
The sides of the cabinet feature sturdy horizontal bars.
The cabinet is very spacious and ideal for easy storage due to the many different type of compartments.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).

It is in a very good restored condition. Smooth running doors and drawers. No keys included. Please see the photos for a condition reference.
