This is an exceptional long table linen in pure linen. My take is that it is a "Vendange" linen (for the wine harvest labourer's table) and not only for its length , but more importantly it has no damask design or initials. During the wine harvest around the 16th Sepetember the wine pickers are "royally treated" for lunch with pain, home made patés, cheeses and a very course red wine. They all sit together on long tables and often in between the vines. These are often very rowdy affaires and it is great fun to see them enjoying life when you happen to be in the wine regions in September. The table linen is still in good condition, but has been joined in the length and there are 2 small holes which we have covered with "an auto collant" an adhesive tiny square which does not come of. I use these lengths when I have extended luncheon gatherings out side for up to 14 persons and by decking it with flower decorations and pretty faïence it looks perfectly acceptable and if wine does get spilled it is not important. I have quickly decked the table to give you some idea. In fact as you will note there is an unobtrusive damask design length ways and see last photos.
