In Al-Andalus it was common to smoke hashish and other types of opiates, which were introduced into the peninsula in the Caliphate period and remained there until the Christian period, passing through the Nasrid period, to which the pipes we are referring to belong.
These pipes would have consisted of a hollow bowl containing the narcotic, which, in this case, due to Sassanid influence, would have been decorated with an anthropomorphic face, and a flue, the part where it is smoked, which could be made of wood or of the same ceramic paste.
