Simone Post - 茶壶 (3) - 棉花糖茶壶 - 瓷, 石器

Simone Post Limited edition of the Marshmallow Teapot. 'The bald teapot and two bald cups' inspired by the Alessi teaset. "As a child, we had the Alessi whistling kettle at home. From childhood, I always considered this a wondrous object. It almost looked like a toy, with its little bird on the spout and the sturdy handles. On the other hand it also had an almost futuristic look due to its high-gloss stainless steel base, as if it came from another world, from another planet. For this Masterly edition I created a new variation of a teapot + two cups, where I want to bring out this wondrous and alienating, but also playful aspect. I started out with a basic model made out of marshmallows, creating a completely different formlanguage than if you were to work directly with ceramics. This gave the whole design a very chunky and playful character. This teaset, almost seems to come from another world, perhaps not so much futuristic but rather a fairy-tale world; A sweet parallel-candy world born of imagination and childlike fantasy. What I admire about the Alessi teapot is that besides its playfulness, there is a kind of honesty in its use of materials. The base, the high-gloss stainless steel body, is the colour of the material itself, while the knobs, handles and spout stand out because of their use of colour. This is why, in my final design, I chose to let the colour of the clay itself be visible in the base, and precisely the handles and knobs stand out through colour. With my design, I want to not only pay homage to the Alessi whistling kettle, but also create an invitation to push the boundaries of the everyday and play with shape, material and colour." About Post: Simone Post (*1990, Utrecht, the Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary maker with roots in textiles, based in Rotterdam. Growing up, she was surrounded by sewing machines to play around with as her mother conducted sewing classes at home. She graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with honors in 2015. Simone’s atelier serves as a sanctuary for experimentation and creation with textiles as her ultimate muse. This can find it’s materialisation in various outcomes, such as refurbished and ‘reupholstered’ knob chairs, alienating soft cabinets, pleated ceramics or marshmallow twisted window frames. Post’s work delves deep into color, texture, and print. Her works breath colour and optimism but at the same time are always asking substantive questions. Her work is a testament to the potential of materials, demonstrating that with dedication, craftsmanship, and a sense of wonder, it’s possible to turn seemingly ordinary materials into something extraordinary. She has a portfolio of projects, collaborating with esteemed companies such as Vlisco, Kvadrat, Adidas, and Hermès, yet she is ultimately driven by a profound inner compulsion to create her own highly coveted objects Her work has been exhibited worldwide from Brasil, China, Italy, India, US, Europe and has been acquired by multiple museums, including the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, the Centraal Museum, Utrecht, MAD Paris and the Cooper Hewitt, New York #masterlyhomage The bald teapot measures: 26cm x 30cm x 17cm and the 2 bald cups each measure 10cm x 7cm x 5cm. #SS24
