Original woodblock print - Washi paper - Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) - Scene from the "Manga", Volume 9, first edition- Japan - 1819 Ronin warrior at rest, leaning against a buffalo, holding his Wakizashi. This is from the first edition of the book, printed in black, grey and light-salmon. The "wear of the blocks" show fresh lines in the image, and margin-lines consistent in wear with other 1819 prints. Publisher: Eirakuya Toshiro, with the red publisher's seal in colophon. The Manga editions were initially published by Eirakuya Toshiro, Nagoya. Volumes 9 and 10 were simultaneously published by Eirakuya Toshiro and Hanabusaya Heikichi in Edo (Tokyo). On a Japanese washi paper, in good condition. Imprint is sharp and detailed. The two pages joined with a very thin washi. Very small pinholes margin repaired with a thin washi. Size: 19.5x 25.4cm.
