Strand of very ancient selected carnelian and jasper beads of short cylinder and barrel shape. Sourced in Western Africa.
Beads of this kind coming from Djenné excavations are dated from the 9 to 13th Centuries. Most of them were made in India and traded to Western Africa and Asia by Islamic merchants. Some may be African-made.
Worn. Good condition.
Collectible and useful as jewelry supplies.
