Rare combat axe from South Sudan, likely of Lopit origin.
The Lopit are an ethnic group living in South Sudan, in the Equatoria district, in the Lopit Mountains north of Torit. Their close neighbors include the Pari, Lotuko, Toposa, and Boya. They refer to themselves as Donge (plural) or Dongioni (singular).
This small axe features a wooden handle that is heavily patinated, adorned with four copper-alloy rings. The head and blade also show significant signs of wear and patina. The eye is intact, securely holding the assembly together. The bronze-finished steel base is of high quality.
Total height with stand 70 cm.
