The head is covered by a large arched cephalothorax, with a pair of stalked compound eyes, a pair of tentacles, and the number of body segments ranging from 8 to 30. Each body segment carries a pair of bilimb-type appendages. It ends in a tapered tail with paired spines or a fantail.
