【Product details】
This auction offers a traditional Japanese shaku, a slender wooden baton used in ancient and modern ceremonial practices. The shaku has its origins in China, where it served as a memo pad for officials. In Japan, it was adapted to attach notes for reminders during court affairs. It later became a symbol of dignity during significant rituals and is currently utilized by Shinto priests during ceremonies.
The shaku, dating back to the early 20th century, shows signs of age, including surface wear, small scratches, and minor dents, reflecting its authenticity and historical use. The accompanying fabric bag, used for storage and transport, exhibits interior silk damage and exterior fraying, with the threads worn and tattered. Please refer to the photos to assess the detailed condition of this piece.
