Vintage Russian folk string instrument, the 3-string Balalaika. Exclusive model made for "Mockba 80", or the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Although presented as a commemorative souvenir, this model is quite well made and perfectly playable with very nice tuners, a properly cut bridge and nut, and what appear to be strong neck and headstock joints. Only real blemish is a very thin split along wood grain on top. Play Eastern European or Russian folk songs today on this fine Balalaika! Instrument will be shipped in a soft case, but it will not be form fitting as it is a guitar case. Ask about non-U.S. shipping as we can figure something out.
"The balalaika (Russian: балала́йка, pronounced [bəɫɐˈɫajkə]) is a Russian stringed musical instrument with a characteristic triangular wooden, hollow body and three strings. Two strings are usually tuned to the same note and the third string is a perfect fourth higher. The higher-pitched balalaikas are used to play melodies and chords. The instrument generally has a short sustain, necessitating rapid strumming or plucking when it is used to play melodies. Balalaikas are often used for Russian folk music and dancing."
