【Product details】
Explore the grace and innocence of youth with this 20th-century Noh mask, representing “Koomote” or “the young woman.” This mask is an embodiment of a maiden aged between 16 to 17 years, traditionally unmarried, characterized by high, arched eyebrows painted on the forehead and teeth blackened in the customary Ohaguro style.
The Koomote mask radiates purity and charm, capturing a hint of youthful naivety. This effect is achieved by the high eyebrows and blackened teeth, symbolizing the untouched beauty and simplicity of a young, unmarried woman. The face is painted with white powder, accentuating its fairness, and the cheeks are touched with red to give a healthy, vibrant look.
This mask, a testament to the delicate portrayal of age and emotion in Noh theater, shows slight signs of wear and staining, as seen in the attached photographs. Please note that a stand is not included with this piece.
