Piet Wiegman was born in Heemstede (1930) under the name Petrus Jacobus Maria Wiegman. At the age of 21, he started painting, later deciding in 1908 to dedicate his life to painting. Piet Wiegman was a painter, graphic artist, and draftsman. He was a self-taught artist who etched, painted, and drew in an expressionist style. Piet Wiegman came from a family of several artists. His father, Jan Wiegman, was a painter and graphic artist, as were his brothers, including the well-known Matthieu.
