The last notable symbolist publishing house was Alkonost, which existed in 1918-1923. (Petrograd; in 1923 books were also published in Berlin) under the leadership of S. Alyansky and with the close participation of A. Blok and Andrei Bely. Vyach also played a significant role in the beginning of the publishing house’s activities. Ivanov. However, the existence of the publishing house during the years of the final collapse of symbolism did not give it the opportunity to be a purely biased publishing house. The main thing for the owner of the publishing house was his personal friendship with Blok, which largely determined the book repertoire. The largest representatives of Russian symbolism, poets who guessed in the shades of the era the onset of tragic days for Russia, gathered around the publishing house for the last time. Apparently, it is no coincidence that the publishing house was given this name for the mythical bird of bright sadness. Artist Yu.P. Annenkov based her image on the brand of the publishing house - the gloomy and prophetic Russian bird-maiden with a human face suited the name of the publishing house perfectly. Among the publications of Alkonost are most of Blok’s post-revolutionary books (including two volumes of collected works, 1923) and the first edition of his biography, written by M.A. Beketova, “At the Pass”, “Christ is Risen”, “The Queen and the Knights” and “First Date” by Bely, “Infancy” by Vyach. Ivanov, “Treasured Tales” by A. Remizov, a number of books by A. Akhmatova. A significant role for this stage of the existence of symbolism was played by the Alkonost almanac “Notes of Dreamers” (there were 6 issues in total). After Blok’s death and Bely’s departure abroad, the publishing house lost its ideological leaders and did not last long.
