Bouque Payrol is a mine exploited since prehistoric times and very active in the Roman period: the name derives from the Latin 'cuprum peyrolenc', which refers to a copper 'suitable for boiler making'.
Today, the mine is protected for archeology reasons and trespassing is strictly forbidden.
You have here a remarkable specimen of malachite from old discoveries featuring a 4.7 cm long trail of botryoidal green malachite on a diaclase surface of a quartzitic vein rock.
The back side was sawn to remove excess matrix.
