A very beautiful large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a refined polychrome painting on paper of a pine tree 松 (matsu) and two cranes 鶴 (tsuru).
In Japanese culture, the pine tree is known to represent longevity, good fortune and steadfastness. The crane symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. Together they are a very popular design.
Signed in the lower left corner by the artist.
This serene painted screen is protected by a black lacquered wooden frame. The whole backside is decoratively covered with grey paper with a design of waves in silver.
Period: Japan - Late Meiji (Around 1900).

The screen is in very nice clean condition with some very minor traces of age. Please look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
