Fragmentary Figure of a Kriophoros
Roman period, 2nd-3rd century A.D.
The young lamb-bearer depicted with nude upper body, beardless and carrying a lamb on him shoulders, frontal head framed by the lamb, with oval face, short curled hair, sticky-out ears, almond-shaped eyes, broad nose and straight lips.

Note
From a metaphysic point of view the ‚lamb-bearer’ hold in ancient cultures the role of a conductor of souls who bears the animal to death (symbolic of the soul of the dead animal). This figure commemorates the solemn sacrifice of a lamb.
