The Deccan traps, located in western India, are one of the largest volcanic provinces on Earth. There, in several places, geodes were (and are keep getting) found within the basalt flows, when large volumes of rock are removed for the use of various human activities, such as aggregate production for public works, road cuts or well digging.
In some instances, these geodes are filled with late volcanic-hydrothermal zeolite group species. Actually, the Deccan traps became quickly over the 1980's the premier worldwide locality for a number of finely crystallized species: apophyllite, stilbite, heulandite, scolecite, okenite, gyrolite, cavansite, pentagonite and a few others.
Here is an aesthetic miniature from Pune displaying a spray of light green apophyllite over a bed of sheer white heulandite that coats a celadonite-altered basaltic matrix.
A beautiful Indian miniature!
