Christo & Jeanne-Claude (1935-2020) - The Umbrellas, Opening invitation, hand signed.

Christo & Jeanne Claude: "The Umbrellas". Project JAPAN-USA (1991). Flyer of cardboard for the promotion of the project in USA-JAPAN. The brochure, with a lithographic appearance, is from 1988. Front with reproduction of two preparatory drawings of the project (yellow Umbrellas-USA and blue Umbrellas-Japan). Reverse with the installation map. Hand signed by Christo Javacheff. Very rare. Size: 36 x 23 cm. With two original fragments of fabric, blue and yellow, which represent the two colors of the installation. Beautiful montage with paspartout forming a collage with two cutouts from Artcards published by Tachen and covered with a piece of orange methacrylate in the middle of the montage (see photographs), forming an unusual composition. Reverse of the map visible, protected with plexiglax, along with proof of contact with the artist. Other evidence of contact is added (copy of letter from Jeanne Claude). Frame "box-deep" with glass.. Total size: 41,5 x 31,5 x 3,5 cm. Perfect condition. As in all our signed Christo cards, they are delivered with a copy of the postal contact with the artist. Many of our autographs come from visits to its facilities, from the exhibitions held in Barcelona (2000) and Madrid (2006), in Sulzano and Brescia (2016) and in the exhibition at the Gallerie Serpentine in London (2018) on the occasion of what was his last major installation (the London Mastaba). Although the vast majority come from the generous (re)shipment from his address on Howard Street in New York. --------------------------------------Professional packaging with all security measures. Fast shipping with UPS or SEUR (mainly with these companies) and with a permanent tracking number. Although it does not appear in the description, combined shipping is possible, adjusting the price of shipping and returning the remaining amount. Important: we pay taxes. If you wish to send an invoice with the VAT itemized, please tell us so that we can include it in the package. Thanks.Combined shipping does not appear in all our lots for logistical reasons. Whenever a buyer wins two of our lots at auction (even on different auction days), we adjust the shipping costs and return the excess money to the buyer (via pay pal, transfer or cash in the same package). Current lots and soon to be auctioned by Kokoschka, Christo, Riefenstahl, Beuys, Richter, Chillida, Nitsch, Boltanski, Duchamp, Holzer, Warhol, Rothko, Vautier, Zangerl, Tal Coat, Calder, Schubert ... ************************** "Their many projects usually involved fabrics as covers, wraps, decorations or frames that temporarily adorn a specific site or natural feature. It’s as if they wanted to throw a one-time holiday party, for us and nature—in this case, an umbrella festival. These gala intrusions delight, dazzle and amuse. And that is what Christo claimed they intended, nothing more (...) … the real world involves everything: risk, danger, beauty, energy, all we meet with in the real world. This project demonstrated that everything is possible, because it is part of reality.… The work was designed to generate a confrontation with nature and everything that nature brings. This unwelcomed “confrontation”—presumably with the reality of deadly nature—does not cancel the aesthetic pleasure of viewing the umbrellas in recollection. The unadorned pass in fall has its own environmental, high-desert delights, but after-images of the umbrellas linger in the mind. Christo intended this result: “It’s an aesthetic decision.… The art is only temporary. The only thing that will be left is the landscape and the beauty in your mind.” [ROBERT LOUIS CHIANESE, The Umbrellas, en "American Scientist"].
