雕塑, Folk/Naive "Santos" - Virgin Mary "Immaculate Conception" 18/19th Century - 25 cm - 木

This rare Late 18th - 19th century folkloric/naive Hispano-Philippine "Santos" figure depicts the Virgin Mary as the Inmaculate Conception who is standing on top of the globe. The statue gives a heartwarming sensation thanks to the kind and joyful expression of her face and the hands in praying posture, as typical of the Hispano-Philippine "Santos" figurines. The delicate expresion of her face speaks highly of the local artist who crafted this piece. She has her hair down, indicating that she is "inmaculate" and is wearing a blue cape on top of a white garment with painted red roses, indication of her sacrifice after ofering her Child to Martyrdom. Reference: Examples from the praised book on Hispano Philippines art from this time and region "A heritage of Saints" By Esperanza Bunag Gatbonton. The Philippine Rare, not very often come into the market statues from this period and location. Condition: The polychrome shows signs of wear and tear but still displays the beautiful arrangement of blues, reds, greens and blacks. A couple of fingers missing. Professionally packed and shipped with upmost care. This increases the shipping cost slightly but it reassures that it arrives without damages.
