Produced from grapes carefully selected in several passes (yields from about 50 quintals per hectare) and harvested strictly by hand in that green and unspoiled area located northwest of Montalcino, this reserve is a blend of eight historic vineyards planted in 1998, whose grapes are harvested, vinified and then aged separately. A soil with predominantly marl presence accommodates medium dense plantings (5000 plants/hectare) positioned at cica 400 meters above sea level. Vinified in stainless steel with long macerations, this wine ages 36 months in 30-hectoliter French oak barrels and then makes an additional 6-month passage in unglazed concrete, a peculiar solution that makes it even more unique in the local scene. The 2015 vintage is known to be of high quality in the face of weather that tested the winemakers and enhanced their experience and skills. The peaks of heat that marked it translate into a more powerful, muscular and warm style, with tannins that are vigorous but not edgy or excessive, confirming the high quality of the grapes arrived at harvest and the great aging potential. Elegant is a term that is already well suited to a first tasting passage: on the nose, red fruit under spirits, such as cherry, alternates with sweet spices, such as vanilla, and clove, and then meets tobacco and hints of cocoa. A great softness emerges on the palate, well balanced by a present acidity and integrated tannin, and overall a good structure, with a particularly persistent finish that again recalls the red fruit sensed on the nose.
