According to the motto “Ein schönes, sinnliches Vergnügen” [A beautiful, sensual pleasure], artists, street performers and jugglers were put on display and rides, shooting galleries or horror cabinets erected. Furthermore, numerous renowned artists contributed with their work, for example Roy Lichtenstein created a glass labyrinth, Dali donated some female nudes and Keith Haring, among other things, designed a futuristic carousel with strange animal figures. As an artist Keith Haring developed a complete unique and recognisable art language that shows many similarities with pictograms in terms of clarity. Hij studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York Keith Haring grew up in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest of four children. In 1979 Haring made his first crayon drawings on billboards, clothed with black paper that were placed in the New York subways. That was at a time that graffiti already soared and was being recognised in the art world. In 1988 he was diagnosed as an aids-patient.
