Impressive gold earrings with lion’s head terminals of the finest Hellenistic style which is also considered to be also the most refined in the jewelry history and craftmanship at all. The earrings are composed of a circlet of twisted wire, tapering from the lion’s heads. Very expressive style of the zoomorphic portrait on each lion, amazingly well detailed elements and different parts of the facial features, such as the wide-open eyes, nose, ears and mane. Jewelry was an important social marker used to demonstrate wealth, social status and privilege. After the conquest of the Persian Empire by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, the Greeks entered in contact not only with new cultures but also with new techniques and styles of jewelry making.
