[ ATTENTION – a recapped (100%working) 512K Mac is NOT often sold ] and a BOXED 512k is even more rare … Being an Apple enthusiast, I have collected RARE and VALUABLE hardware and software for my co-sentimental Apple companions. The lucky Macintosh Apple enthusiast can supplement his/her collection with this legendary collector's item: the “Macintosh 512K ED FAT MAC. // FAT MAC This is the second model in the Macintosh line, introduced in September of 1984 - the same year of the original 1984-Macintosh. Price tag at the time was US $3,195 (equivalent of approx $ 8,000 in 2021). The Macintosh 512K is the FIRST UPDATE to the original Macintosh 128K (1984). It is virtually identical to the original Macintosh, differing primarily in the amount of built-in random-access memory (the RAM-memory had been quadrupled). The large increase earned it the nickname "Fat Mac". The increased memory turned the Macintosh into a more business-capable computer and gained the ability to run more software. It is the earliest Macintosh model that can be used as an AppleShare server and communicate with modern devices. UNIQUE to this particular computer are “the engraved signatures” of the original Macintosh team - including the signature of “STEVE JOBS” - inside the CASE. The Macintosh team found the original Macintosh ART - and they saw themselves as ARTISTS. When you open “the case”, you understand why. // 512K ED MODEL For the EDucation-only market, the Macintosh 512k was branded as the "Macintosh ED". The education market models have the "ED logo" on the front. // IMPORTANT – WHY BUY FROM ME? (instead of other sellers) I am a Mac user from way back in the Legacy Era. I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. See pictures. // ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST & BATTERY ACID – DUST: the inside of a 30-year-old computer looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics; – LEAKS: 30-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. The battery is removed (FYI: online you can buy a new 4.5V battery for date/time settings. Please let me know if you need help finding the right battery, however a battery is not required to use this computer); – BOARD REVISION: both boards (analog + logic) were revised (thus: the non-functioned electrolytic capacitors were replaced). Long-Story Short. Computers from other vendors may look the same on the outside. I can guarantee you that the inside is very different! So if you want to enjoy your investment for as long as possible, choosing "wisely" is advisable. // GERM-FREE "RARE" QWERTY M0110A KEYBOARD & M0100 MOUSE The Macintosh comes with the accompanying keyboard and mouse. Those objects alone are already worth a fortune on auction websites. The keyboard (and mouse) are completely disassembled and cleaned professionally (see pictures). In my opinion it is my responsibility (as a seller) to provide a Germ-Free keyboard (a 2018 study found that 96% of the keyboards were contaminated with bacteria). So, I think we can agree that nobody wants a nasty, infected keyboard. This 100 % working, professionally checked “Vintage” bundle includes “working software*”. // FREE SOFTWARE* You get a DD Floppy Disk, including: – MacWrite (version 4.5, April 4, 1985); – MacPaint; – MacDraw (version 0.9.4, August 14, 1984); – Speak; – Steve Jobs Drawing. The aforementioned software was released along the first Apple Macintosh systems in 1984. "MacWrite" and "MacPaint" were two original "killer applications" that propelled the adoption and popularity of the Mac in particular. >> Disclaimer: The computer only includes software that is classified as "abandonware" (= from the Public Domain, distributed over the internet and available freely, easily and readily). The software is supplied "free of charge" as a free service (for the retro-computing fan). The floppy disk is a digital copy of the original 800 kb floppy disk. // WHAT MAKES THIS VINTAGE APPLE EVEN MORE SPECIAL? The Macintosh 512K was one of the last classic Macs to feature a “telephone cord-like port” - on the front of the device - for the keyboard; as well as the “DE-9 connector” for the mouse (later models would use ADB ports). That makes this Apple Computer extremely RARE and EXCEPTIONAL … and therefore a good investment. FYI: The RARE keyboard and mouse, they alone are worth the bid (check other websites for their prices)! As an evolutionary improvement over the 128K, the PLUS came with 512k RAM. Normal signs of use and wear. But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in EXCELLENT condition (always keeping in mind their age). The numerous images are part of the meticulous description. Thus: judge yourself! Notes: – The internal floppy drive works like a charm (formatting, reading disks, eject). That is unique! Usually the "EJECT mechanism" fails. So the famous paperclip method isn't needed for this Mac! – There is no single crack in the pastic (computer, keyboard, mouse) = UNIQUE! // IMPORTANT – A NOTE ON YELLOWED PLASTICS! Some words on the yellowing. Old computer cases are made of ABS plastics which contain at that time "bromine". The element bromine reacts over the time of years with UV light and causes some (not-always-even) "yellowing"*. Some sellers "Retr0bright" their computers with chemicals. I am totally agains "Retr0brighting", because it causes structural changes in the plastic, it's not permanent – and it devalues historical items! So pay attention when buying retro-computers (alarm bells should ring when the case is to "gray"). Bytheway: the yellowed plastic is not easy to capture on the photos (but it's there … believe me!). Because of the structure of the used plastic and UV-reaction-over-time … "all items and parts" (computer, keyboard, mouse and power cable) are "yellowed" differently (again: not evenly). Please, if you find a little “yellowing" a problem, it is recommended that you do NOT bid on this item. FYI. Experienced Apple/Macintosh collectors love the "aging-bromine-yellowing". You can compare it with "patina" on vintage furnitures. For connoisseurs it transforms the-surface-of-a-piece from the ordinary to the exceptional – and it tells a story … and brings on the appeal of objects that show their age openly. But again … it is important to know that this specific SE has PATINA.
