Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2014 Emidio Pepe
Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2014 is a fine Abruzzo wine produced by Emidio Pepe.
This wine represents the revenge of Montepulciano, the king of Abruzzo's red grape varieties, which however was once considered a wine of less than excellent quality and with little predisposition to ageing.
The hard work of winemakers like Emidio Pepe, driven by the desire to produce great wines that faithfully reflect the territory, has led to these results: today Pepe represents one of the most important names in the Italian wine scene, and his Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a grandiose wine, with an evolutionary capacity equal to the greatest reds in the world.
Produced according to principles of organic farming integrated with biodynamics in full respect of the territory, this wine is obtained from 100% Montepulciano grapes which derive from 30-year-old vines. According to Pepe, a fundamental element that affects the quality of the wine is how healthy the grapes are, which is why no chemical substances are used and maximum attention is paid both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, then the wine is bottled by hand without filtration, to refine in concrete for 24 months.
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2014 Emidio Pepe has an intense and dark ruby colour; on the nose it gives hints of fresh fruit when young which will be considerably enriched with evolution with aromas of graphite, earth and undergrowth. Austere on the palate, rich in acidity and tannin when young, which will attenuate over time, giving great balance. Great and immortal wine.
