Military Sentry's Watchman mechanical copper clock – J. Burk original – late 19th century.
This is a very early example of the clock of the first portable watchman‘s clock, invented by Johannes Bürk in 1855.
There is no alarm or other clock.
Only pinpricks on a paper strip which were assessed by the sergeant of the guard at the end of a shift.
The clock is made of solid brass.
The operation of the mechanism is unknown and is being sold as non-functioning.
The operation of the mechanism is also unknown. We have wound the spring. The timepiece was working after that but after a few minutes it stopped again. After some wiggling, it worked again. But also stopped again. I dare not touch it any further. I do not want to cause damage, because I do not know anything about clocks. But I think that a drop of oil will work miracles.
There is a corresponding number on both the lid and on the timepiece. Number: 113270.
Including original timepiece key and 5 original watchman‘s keys.
Diameter: 8 cm.
Height:
5 cm.
Will be carefully packaged and shipped by registered post.
