Bicycle - Switzerland military MO05 - 1939
Military bicycle with a very long history, designed many decades ago.
In 1891, Switzerland created the Bicycle Infantry, i.e. infantry soldiers who maneuver on (or, more often, between) battlefields using military bicycles. In 1905, the Bicycle Infantry adopted the "lightweight" bicycle called Ordonnanzfahrrad MO 05, weighing approximately 23 kilograms, which remained the standard Swiss Army bike up until 1993, when it was replaced by a modern mountain bike.
This bike is provided with three brakes. The main one is the classic "coaster" brake, which acts on the rear wheel hub; the front brake has a very old design and is a “spoon” brake, which acts directly on the front wheel tire.
The third brake has been added more recently on all bicycles, even on the older ones; it’s controlled by a lever on the left of the handlebars, it acts always on the rear wheel hub, and gives a good braking stability. With hub lubricant.
26x1/2 wheels, original seat and pedals. All is as shown by pictures.
