The series "CC 7100" of the French railways (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français or SNCF) is a diesel-electric locomotive built by Alsthom. The prototypes (series "CC7000", numbered 7001 and 7002) were built in 1949. The production locomotives (CC7101-CC7158) were then built in the period from 1952 up to and including 1955. These were the first DC locomotives of the SNCF that could exceed a speed of 100 km/h. Indeed: On February 21, 1954 the world speed record on rails was set by a CC 7121 at a speed of 243 kmh. On 28 March, 1955 the CC7107 improved this record by achieving a top speed of 330.8 kmh.
In addition to the 58 locomotives built for the French SNCF, a further 136 went to Spain, 66 to China, 50 to the Soviet Union, 15 to Morocco and 15 to the Netherlands (as the NS 1300).
