Johann Faber (after WW II also spelled Johan Faber - Groningen, July 19 1902 - Groningen, November 4 1979), was a Dutch visual artist and member of De Ploeg. He uses several techniques, such as pencil sketches, lithographs, etchings, watercolours and oil paint.
In 1922, he became an aspiring member of De Ploeg. In 1933, he was unanimously accepted as an active member of De Ploeg, after he had exhibited in a living room. He took part in the annual exhibitions of De Ploeg until the late 1970s. He participated in more than 80 exhibitions.
In his work a stillness can be felt that strongly contrasts with the exuberant paintings of the other artists of De Ploeg. Faber especially found his inspiration in the nature of Groningen and Drenthe. Farms, trees, the Wadden and the sea and reoccurring themes in his work. In Faber’s landscapes, in which he always implemented some form of stylisation, light and space are dominant.
