The underside base is also marked with VOC monogram.
The Arita porcelain became popular in The Netherlands when the Dutch East India Company (VOC - Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) started trading in porcelain. Due to turmoil in China around 1644, the VOC turned to Japan for the porcelain trade. Delftware was greatly influenced by Arita porcelain.
