Translated (with an afterword) by Åke Runnquist.
Scarce and wonderful Swedish edition of 'Alice in Wonderland', illustrated by the great Finnish artist Tove Jansson – much-loved creator of the Moomin books.
'Alice' was the second of two Lewis Carroll titles illustrated by Jansson, following on from 'The Hunting of the Snark' ('Snarkjakten') in 1959. She provides a delightfully quirky, Moomin-esque interpretation of Carroll's fantasy – much as she had done a few years earlier with her whimsical version of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' ('Bilbo, en hobbits äventyr'), published in 1962.
Note that this is the true first Tove Jansson edition – the English-language version following over a decade later, in 1977.
Condition

Front free endpaper with trace of penciled price (erased), rear pastedown with small area of surface loss. Binding tight, with slight lean, bumping to head of spine. Unclipped dust jacket with discoloration, marks and wear as shown, creasing and tears to upper edge; reverse with (archival?) tape repairs to upper edge. Supplied in removable protective sleeve.
