Up for auction: A Prussian cavalry sabre M 1852 with scabbard and the following data: The “calvary sword M 1852”, also called a “basket-hilted sword” or “Kavalleriesäbel n/M” (cavalry sword, ‘n/M’ meaning new pattern) was supposed to replace the old “Blücher” sword from 1811. It was intended to serve as the standard side arm of dragoons, Hussars and lancers. This new basket-hilted sword was supposed to offer a better protection for the hand of the user.
