In sea travel, the hourglass was used to measure the speed in knots. Also the time of day could be tracked at sea, with every day being restarted when the sun was at its highest point. The time was measured in glasses: After 30 minutes the hourglass (the glass) had gone through and it was reversed. On the half hour the ship’s bell would sound once; on the whole hour it would sound twice.
Carefully packaged and shipped with signature for receipt.
