Large, beautiful, very finely painted Chinese plate with a decoration of a dragon with four claws surrounded by peonies, from the 19th century (Guangxu, 1875-1908). The reverse side of the plate features a richly painted decoration with bamboo branches. The plate is in excellent condition. One tiny frit along the edge, no other damage along the edge. No hairline fractures, no restorations. The dragon is a creature known for bringing luck and prosperity in China, and it's closely connected to the imperial family and the emperor. Dragons are symbol for imperial power and bringers of rain and fertility. If you disturb the dragon and the heavenly harmony, it will cost you your life on earth. The diameter of the plate is 26 cm.
