Nicely decorated table bell, heavy quality.
The handle is shaped like a bear with a shield.
The bell has the inscription F. HEMONY ME FECIT ANNO 1565
and is decorated with fighting knights on horseback.
The brothers François Hemony (Levécourt, 1609 - Amsterdam,
1667) and Pierre (Pieter) Hemony (Levécourt, 1619 - Amsterdam, 1680)
were the most important bell founders of the 17th century in the
Netherlands. They were the first in the world to produce a purely
tuned chime, and thereby transformed the
carillon or chimes into a full-fledged musical instrument.
The lot will be thoroughly packaged and shipped by registered post.
