Antique & Unique French Bronze and Marble Mantle Clock
Taveau & Duplan A Paris
Japy Fréres Medaille D'or 1850
Frédéric Japy (1740-1812) founded France’s first factory for clock mechanisms in 1777 in Beaucourt. The factory’s production grew significantly until 1806, when the company changed its name to Japy Frères, which then became Japy Frères et Cie in 1854. From 1850 to 1858 its production was signed like this example: “Japy Frères – Medaille d’Or”. It won several gold medals and medals of honour, both in expositions in Paris as well as in other European cities. In 1855 it received the Grand Medal of Honour. After 1888 it changed its signature to “Japy Frères et Cie, Medaille d’Honneur”, with a cross in the centre.

Exceptionally beautiful bronze and marble French mantel clock, with beautiful details, in excellent condition and fully functional. (with normal signs of wear and age)
The base of the clock is made of bronze with beautiful floral details in Rococo style, with the clock in the center and two decorations in fine marble on the sides.
In the upper part there is a beautiful bronze sculpture with a base of precious lacquered wood with amazing details that represents an officer of the French army with a cannon.
The clock was made by the ancient Parisian manufacturer ''Taveau & Duplan A Paris'' from 1850-1858
The eight-day power reserve movement with rope pendulum regulation and a half-hourly striking mechanism on bell functions very well,
