Vico Magistretti - Cassina - 扶手椅 (6) - Carimate
Vico Magistretti was born on 6 October 1920 in Milan, where he graduated in architecture in 1945 and then entered the studio of his father Piergiulio. In a few years he became a leading figure of Italian Design, a cultural phenomenon that began immediately after the war and that launched the style of the Italian house in the world.
Vico develops an expressive and unmistakable language, characterised by pure geometric shapes and essential compositions, considering the object as a response to a need. Magistretti's designs are stripped of the superfluous and extremely contemporary, confirming that “a good design object must last a long time, 50 or even 100 years” as the designer himself claimed. Starting in the 1960s, he began to collaborate with exceptional companies, including Artemide, Cassina, Oluce, De Padova and Kartell, creating for them best sellers still in production.
