Noboru Nakamura - Ikea - 扶手椅 - Poang - Limited Edition
The Poäng was designed by Noboru Nakamura in 1977.
The design is based on the Artek Armchair 406 designed by the Finn Alvar Aalto in 1939.
According to the designer Noboru Nakamura, the best design brings movement to life. Nakamura discovered that if you sit on a frame of curved plywood, you can swing slightly on the chair. And according to Ikea's catalogue, the frame follows the contours of your body and supports your lower back and neck, allowing you to sink down comfortably.
Initially this armchair was called 'Poem' and in 1992 it was changed to the name Poäng.
An iconic design!
In 1999 Ikea made a limited edition as a tribute to the original design by Alvar Aalto. This Poang armchair was launched on the market exactly 60 years after the unveiling of the original design by Alvar Aalto. The woven strips of thick saddle leather perfectly match the original design of the Artek Armchair 406.
This offered armchair is in new condition because this item has only been used as a decorative object. The seat and headrest are pristine!
