This Philips N5151 II is a stereo tape deck with Dolby B noise reduction and was first sold in 1981 by Philips.
The main features of the Philips N5151 II are: 2 heads, mechanical 3-digit tape counter, manual tape type suitable for normal, chrome and metal tapes, transport with belt-driven single capstan.
Typical front-loader deck with the cassette compartment on the right side of the deck. Ejecting the cassette is mechanically done and the cassette with the side to be played must be facing forward in the cassette holder, which is opened by a damped mechanism.
Level meters which are used on the N5151 II, are analogue needle VU readout meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable N5151 II transport function selection. Cue and review can be used to find the beginning of a passage easily and quickly.
The Dolby-B system reduces noise on reels recorded on the N5151 II by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies. 19 kHz pilot signal plywood that is present in FM stereo broadcasts can cause false activation of the noise reduction system. The switchable MPX filter of the N5151 II filters out the pilot signal and ensures the correct Dolby processing of FM stereo programs.
To create live recordings, this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening, a jack connector for stereo headphones is included. Connect to other audio components for playback can be reached with an RCA cable and record from a source with an RCA cable.
