Vieux Bruxelles Faber et Cappellemans - 盤 - 瓷器
Pair of porcelain plates with polychrome decoration from Vieux Bruxelles.
Decorated with birds copied exactly after the illustrations of Buffon's Histoire Naturelle des oiseaux, published between 1771 and 1786.
These small, natural birds are placed in a landscape created by the painter from scratch. Gold leaf illumination.
The set was commissioned by Wilhelm I in 1829 and initially consisted of 432 plates and 220 dessert plates. In 1830 it was transferred to the collection of Leopold I, the first king of the Belgians.
