Sony SS-5050 Carbocon vintage 1976 made in Japan Collector’s item speakers which introduced the new carbon fibre into speaker construction. Sony, like others in Hi-Fi field, had gained experience with carbon tonearms for their more expensive turntables and was now also going to apply those experiences to speaker cones. Carbon is lightweight, rigid and robust, exactly what a speaker cone should be. The SS-5050 has the huge 30.5 cm diameter woofer made of carbocon, a new material based on carbon. Both other units are coated with carbon. The speakers are in very good, used, carefully maintained condition. The original front covers are immaculate. The sound is fresh and modern with a very deep reaching bass foundation.
