The Starr carbine was designed similarly to the Sharps carbine.
Designed in 1858 (first model), it was mainly used by cavalry soldiers during the American Civil War.
Only 5,000 pieces of the carbine were produced:
On 21st February 1865, Starr received an order for 3,000 units suitable for the 56-50 Spencer cartridge, which were delivered between March and April of the same year.
A new order was then placed on 11th April 1865 for an additional 2,000 pieces.
Round barrel, grooved, with backsight adjuster.
Tilting breech block to the rear by loading the under guard lever.
All the markings are visible:
Breech tail marked "STARR’S PATENT / SEPT 14th 1858".
Lock marked "STARR ARMS CO. YONKERS, N.Y.".
Barrel marked "STARR ARMS CO. YONKERS, N.Y." (barely visible).
Serial number on the bolt "31575".
Weapon complete with saddle ring on the left.
Walnut butt in decent (healthy) condition with a repair to the butt behind the breech tail.
The inside of the chamber and barrel are in very good condition, the grooves are clearly visible, the interior is almost mirror-like (except at the muzzle), the chamber is not oxidised.
The weapon is healthy and in firing condition.
